Terms of Service

These terms are an agreement between you and More Shiny Inc. ("we", "us"), the maker of Presto, a dictation app for macOS. By downloading or using Presto you agree to them. They're written to be read, not to scare you.

Your license

When you buy Presto you get a personal, non-transferable license to use the app on up to 2 Macs that you own or control. It's a one-time purchase, not a subscription: the version you buy keeps working, and updates released within one year of your purchase are included. If we ever release a paid major upgrade after that, upgrading is optional.

Please don't share, resell, or publish your license key. We keep license checks gentle and offline out of respect for you; keys that turn up mass-shared publicly may be deactivated in future updates.

The trial

Presto is fully functional for 14 days before it asks for a license. No account or payment details are needed to try it.

Purchases and payment

Purchases are processed by Paddle, our merchant of record. Paddle handles checkout, receipts, applicable taxes such as VAT and sales tax, and payment security, and their buyer terms apply to the transaction itself. Refunds are described in our refund policy.

What Presto needs to run

Presto requires a Mac with Apple silicon running macOS 26 or later, plus the macOS permissions it asks for on first run (microphone, Accessibility, and Automation): those are what let it hear you and type where your cursor is. Speech recognition and text cleanup run on your Mac; see the privacy policy for the full story.

What you shouldn't do with it

Don't use Presto to break the law, don't try to circumvent the license system, and don't redistribute the app or its bundled components except as their open-source licenses allow (see acknowledgements). You may not reverse engineer the app except where the law says we can't stop you.

The honest fine print

Presto is provided "as is." We work hard to make it reliable, but we can't promise it will be error-free or fit for any particular purpose, and dictation output should be reviewed before you rely on it, especially anywhere important. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim related to Presto is limited to the amount you paid for it, and we're not liable for indirect or consequential damages.

If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies. These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state where More Shiny Inc. is registered.

Changes and contact

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll update this page and its effective date. Questions? support@trypresto.app. A human reads it.
